You can access website scan results to review metrics associated with your website scan. Once a website scan is completed, there are two ways to view the results:

  • Viewing results in the Dashboard.

  • Viewing results in an Export. For more information, see Exporting Scan Results.

To view scan results

  1. On the Cookie Consent menu, select Websites. The Websites list screen appears.

    websites_screen.png

On the Websites list screen, you can see basic information about the scan, including the number of pages scanned, the number of cookies found, and the date of the next scheduled scan.

  2. Click on the domain for which you want to see detailed scan results. The Scan Results dashboard appears on the Website Details screen.

  3. Select a specific scan using the Show field. The Overview tab appears.

    Note

If you have re-scanned a website multiple times, you will see date and timestamp related to each individual scan. You can pick the date of the scan that you are most interested in.

    overview_tab.png

The Overview dashboard shows detailed summary of the results of the selected scan. For more information about the dashboard and how to view additional scan data, see About Scan Results.

  • Cookies

  • Tags

  • Forms

  • Pages

  • Local Storage

  • Services

Cookies Tab

On the Overview dashboard, cookies found in the scan are categorized as Strictly NecessaryPerformance, FunctionalityTargeting, and Unknown. Cookies are categorized using Cookiepedia. You can add the cookies categorized as Unknown to categories on the Categorizations screen. For more information about categorizing cookies, see Managing and Categorizing Cookies and SDKs.

Note

Recategorization is available only for the latest successful scan. If a scan ends in error or is cancelled by a user, recategorization will not be available.

On the Scan Results dashboard, you can also see how many of the cookies found were on pages which required a login to access.

cookies_tab_1.png

The Cookies dashboard shows the cookies found by category and by type as well as a summary of that information.

Below, each cookie found during the scan appears, organized by category.

To see the pages of the domain on which a cookie appears, click the name of the cookie.

Tags Tab

In addition to scanning domains for cookies, the scanner also looks for certain types of third-party HTML tags.

On the Overview dashboard, the scanner identifies the following HTML tags:

  • JavaScript

  • Images

  • Object

  • Embed

  • iFrame

  • Web Beacons

On the Tags dashboard, you can view third party tags by domain from which the tag is loaded.

Forms Tab

The website scanner also detects form elements and uses matching to determine if the fields in the form collect personal data.

On the Forms tab, you can see each field in the audited forms and if that field collects personal information.

This is the first iteration of more advanced scan functionality which auto-populates forms. The future-state purpose of populating forms is to complete user journeys and trigger additional cookies for detection in scans. Currently no action is necessary regarding the information on this page. Fields such as Name, Email, and Password would be marked as Personal, while all other fields would be marked as Non-Personal. If the fields have a placeholder label such as “First Name”, the label will also be captured in the scan.

Pages Tab

On the Pages dashboard, you can see a list of the URLs for each page scanned along with the number of cookies found on each page and if that page contains a form, privacy policy, cookie policy, or requires a login.

To see details about the cookies on a particular page, click the URL for the page you want to view. You can also use the Page search field to look up a specific page to review the cookies found on that page.

Storage Tab

The website scanner evaluates the HTML5 storage capacity of a website.

On the Overview dashboard, you can see the number of local storage objects detected in the scan.

The Storage dashboard shows each local storage object with details about the host, key, and value.

Local storage allows JavaScript sites and applications to save key-value pairs within a website browser. The data stored persists in the browser if there is not expiration. No additional functionality is planned for the local storage beyond auditing purposes. This tab does not indicate the relation between cookies and storage.

initiators_tab.png

The Initiators tab provides a comprehensive view of tag initiators and initiators chains. The tab is designed to display relationships between tag initiator for a more detailed understanding of the all tracking technologies deployed on your sites. This tab provides insight into where data is flowing so you can take action to control or change data flow accordingly.

Additionally, the tab also provides vendor information that shows which vendors provide services on your domains.

This tab displays “piggy-back” tags. If no chain is found, no action is necessary. Otherwise click the View Chain link in the Initiator Chain column to see which initiator tag triggers a chain of other tags. This helps with understanding the relationship between the different source URL’s that write cookies on the page. This can be referenced if using auto-blocking, or if customers are looking for more information around what triggered a tag. This page does not currently indicate the link between cookies and initiators(this is on the OneTrust product roadmap).

services_tab.png

Insights on services are provided in efforts to shift the scan results focus from cookies to a broader scope (vendors and services). Services are categorized so that users can see what type of tracking is leveraged on websites.

Services may be incorporated into Autoblocking at a future date. Currently, no action is necessary regarding the information on this page. The data comes from a database where vendor services data is maintained.

About Scan Results Archival

Beginning with OneTrust 202305.1.0, scan results are automatically purged or archived. Archiving scans improves the performance of the application by removing outdated data from your tenant. This process will take place automatically and no action is required for scans to be archived.

  • The 3 most recent Completed scans are always kept intact, but others will be purged or archived. Scans in Cancelled or Errored statuses are purged and the data is not archived, meaning the data is no longer accessible. OneTrust will not purge or archive the most recent scan, i.e., we always retain at least one scan (and up to 3).

  • Scans in the archived storage can be exported and downloaded as a zip file, with JSON format. Scans are stored for 3 years from the time of archival, after which they are purged.

To manually archive scan results

You can manually archive scans to send scan results to the archive outside of OneTrust's automated archival process.
